Church at Lake Valley

Lake Valley, NM ---- Interested in ghost towns? Here is one. Lake Valley was a mining town situated between Hillsboro and Hatch, NM. It started with silver mining in 1876 and produced quite a large quantity of silver pretty much through 1883. Boom and bust. There was a resurgence of interest in the mine during World War II to produce manganese. The town's final resident left in 1994. The site in now managed by the BLM and is open to visitors during daylight hours. Here is a link to some photos of Lake Valley in its heyday, as well as more recent ones of the ruins there with my thanks to the photographers who took them. PHOTOS
