Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores

Arroyo Hondo, NM ---- This church, built in the 1830's, was originally designed with the flat-roof adobe architecture which remained until 1916. Then the local priest, a Frenchman named Father Girard, began remodeling in a more French style. The large buttresses were removed; a pitched roof and wood-shingled belfry were added; the original windows were replaced with neo-Gothic ones. It's still in use, preserved well, and a lovely structure.
