Ferry Rider
Ocracoke, NC
Ocracoke is served by three ferries run by the State of North Carolina. Two cross Pamlico Sound, heading south to Cedar Island or west to Swan Quarter. There is a nominal toll for those. The free ferry crosses Hatteras Inlet and is much shorter and free. It generally is the ferry of choice. Ocracokers have priority on the Hatteras ferry. There is a big hubbub this winter because North Carolina is considering increasing the tolls on the two long rides and instituting a toll on the Hatteras route. People are up in arms!
