Guadalupe in Grotto

Within Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto in Los Ojos. This spot, listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, is pretty easy to miss, but worth a stop if you can find it. The legend is that the shrine was built by T.D. Burns a century ago when his wife lost control of her horse and buggy on the steep hill between Tierra Amarilla and Los Ojos. By a miracle she survived and Burns vowed to build an Italian-style grotto and shrine to honor God because his wife believed she has been saved by divine intervention.
