Morada Cross
Taos, NM ---- Hidden away in Taos is La Morada de Don Fernando de Taos. A morada is a meeting place, but not a church, for a Roman Catholic brotherhood known as Penitentes. Some still remain in northern and central New Mexico and southern Colorado. Because these religious men practiced self-flagellation, the ancient rites were performed in secret. Generally moradas are not open to the public. Taos Mountain is in the background in this photo.
